My name is Charlie Hesse and welcome to Charlie Hesse Interiors! I am so excited to share
design tips, ideas + inspiration, lifestyle favorites, shop updates and a behind the scenes look at what goes into the
interior design process.
A little bit about myself! I am from Bay Head, a small town on the Jersey Shore. I have always admired nice interior spaces, but my journey into the design world didn’t start until after I got my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at Monmouth University. After college, I moved to New York City to pursue a modeling career, a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I signed with Wilhelmina Models and soon began working with impressive and exciting brands. When I wasn’t modeling, I was decorating rental apartments for my family’s real estate development company. This experience gave me extensive insight of the design process and I fell in love with it. Not only picking out the furniture or a paint color, but also learning about everything that goes into building a home from the ground up. I decided to take a few classes as I was determined to learn about the essential qualities to be an Interior Designer. After my first week of class, I knew this was my passion and what would ultimately become my career path. What I was learning at the construction site and in class came to fruition. I decided to pursue my education and graduated with an Associate’s degree from the New York School of Interior Design.
In the beginning of 2020, my family was in the middle of a major renovation project on a building they owned, a retail space with an above attached three bedroom apartment. It is a prime location in Bay Head for a retailer. A few months later, COVID changed the world as we knew it. The fashion industry was one of many industries to be put on hold. This paused my modeling career and gave me the time to really consider a full time career in Interior Design. The progress of the building renovation continued to get delayed, due to the supply chain effects of Covid. This time gave me the idea of using the space for myself. I always wanted to start my own business, and now the opportunity had fully presented itself. I was a little intimidated, but with the support of my family and friends I made the decision to open a home and lifestyle retail store which would also be the home for my design office. I hired one of my best friends, Nicole Meyer, to be the store manager who would help me carry out my vision for the store. In May of 2021, Saltwater House was born!
I have learned so much about business and design in the short seven months that Saltwater House has been open. We have met so many new people and started working with amazing vendors all over the world. Saltwater House has also opened the door to meeting new design clients allowing me to expand Charlie Hesse Interiors. I can’t wait to continue to grow as a designer and store owner. I’m excited to meet new people, work with new brands, and bring you along through this journey!
